EDME Maltings, Mistley, Essex

A series of projects within a masterplan for EDME ltd, in a sensitive conservation area adjacent the Stour Estuary.  Edme Limited produces a wide range of the highest quality ingredients for the baking, cereal and food industries, and they have been operating in Mistley for over 100 years.

The masterplan sees the retention and refurbishment of the historically important buildings on the site, including the listed No.2 Maltings building, the iconic chimney and the Abbey.

The Abbey is a red-brick Victorian building located on Mistley High Street. The attractive frontage is a composition of ornate and plain brick gables, diamond patterned brickwork and sash windows of various proportions.  The building has been much altered internally over the years, and the approved planning application aims to return the building to high quality residential use.

Other projects within the masterplan include improvements to the access and operations within the EDME site, a new production facility and the redevelopment of a quayside warehouse as a new mixed use development.
