Spring Valley Mills, Stanningley, Leeds

A feasibility study for Leeds City Council and A W Hainsworth exploring the diversification of a working textile mill to include business incubator units in the redundant Victorian buildings.

The Hainsworth Family has been producing woollen textiles within the Stanningley area of Leeds since 1783 and AW Hainsworth and Sons is one of the oldest companies in Yorkshire. The current mill which the family have occupied since 1882 dates back to 1794. Over a 200 year period, additional buildings have been constructed and added to house the increasing variety of textile production machinery required by a flexible modern mill.

Working alongside Aspinall Verdi and Rider Hunt, the study reviewed the site in its wider context and analysed the mill buildings to inform a strategy and financial appraisal for the future redevelopment and enhancement of the site.
