Wellhouse Farm Barn and New detached house, Mirfield
Wellhouse Farm lies to the north west of Mirfield, a former a mill town located between Huddersfield and Leeds, in the Calder valley.
Wellhouse Farmhouse and its attached barn are Grade ll listed. The house, which dates from 1576, is adjoined to the barn.
Though the farmhouse remains in occupation, the barn section was on Kirklees Council’s ‘Buildings at Risk’ register, being in an advanced state of dereliction, and had been so since its abandonment and partial collapse during the 1980’s.
Following an options appraisal Calls Architecture achieved planning permission and listed building consent to re-build the failed part of the listed structure, along with ‘enabling’ residential development on the site. The houses were completed in 2020.
